ABOUT

KATA is a small independent brand based in London, founded by Erika Passmore.  Born from my deep connection with material and handcrafted work, KATA aims to bring purpose and meaning to everyday objects.  My approach is artisanal and intuitive, focusing on creating functional pieces that reflect a thoughtful handcrafted process.

Every item is mostly a one-of-a-kind creation or produced on a small scale, made by hand with time, intention, and care.  I carefully source materials from the places I visit, including deadstock, vintage and antique textiles, remnants, salvaged materials, and other forgotten fabrics.

I find joy in discovering these overlooked materials and imagining how they might be brought back to life in a new form. By repurposing these materials, I hope to contribute to reducing waste, while also minimizing environmental impact and encouraging a more sustainable lifestyle.  I do hope that you will cherish and mend your pieces over the years.

The name "KATA" comes from my grandmother's name, whose family always worked with their hands—sewing, mending, and doing needlework as part of their daily life. This creative spirit has naturally become a part of me. It’s where my creative roots come from.
